Joyce’s Mail

Easter has come and gone and sunny April is finally upon us. We will expect it to stay right with us the entire month.

On Wednesday, April 7, at the Council Meeting at City Hall, Mayor Land presented the GFWC Apopka Woman’s Club with a Proclamation for our 49th Art & Foliage Festival.

For those that have seen our advertisements in the Apopka Chief and are concerned that the City of Apopka is sharing our Festival this year, I want to explain this to you.

When city officials heard that we were paying out a huge sum of money every year for insurance, they volunteered to add us to their insurance policy. That offer lifted a very large expense off our shoulders and we included the City of Apopka in our advertising, as we do for all our sponsors and partners.

The City will continue to supply us with police and fire protection, city workers whose labors are invaluable to us, the use of KLN Park to hold our event and the use of the Fran Carlton Center. In addition, Mayor Land will open our 49th Festival on Saturday morning, April 24.

We have always worked closely with the city and we will continue to do so. The mayor and city officials are very proud of the Apopka Art & Foliage Festival and you, the GFWC Apopka Woman’s Club members who make it happen.

Now, please remember that Tuesday, April 20, is a very important meeting. We would like everyone to attend. We will have our annual Pot Luck Supper and meet the scholarship winners that the Education Committee has chosen. Please come out and show your support for these young women. The dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m., so don’t be late! Call Marty Harrison at 407-886-1922 if you have any questions as to what to bring.

We will also elect our new officers for 2010-2011 at this meeting. Every vote counts. Let’s have a big turnout for this very important, but fun, meeting. I’m counting on you.
