The GFWC Apopka Woman’s Club and the City of Apopka presented its 50th Annual Apopka Art and Foliage Festival. The event took place at Kit Land Nelson Park located between First Street and Orange Avenue as you go north on Park Avenue off of SR 441. View Map The Honorable Mayor John H. Land opened the Festival on Saturday at 9:30 am. Congresswoman Sandy Adams presented a flag to Mayor Land that was flown over the United States Capital in honor of the 50th Annual Art and Foliage Festival for the traditional flag raising ceremony.
More than 35,000 browsed the 160 + juried artists and crafters from throughout Florida and across the nation, sold their work and competed for cash awards and ribbons. The awards ceremony took place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1.

“Spring Ahead – Re-plant, Re-Grow, and Re-Vitalize”
Visit our Foliage Area where you can find local nursery growers. Drought resistant plants and a myriad of favorite indoor and outdoor foliage will be in abundance from over twenty Apopka area nurseries. We offer a free plant sitting service so that you can continue to enjoy the festival after you purchase your plants.
Florida Garden Select 2011 Plants of the Year are the Zebra Aloe provided by Blossom World Gardens, the Dragon Wing Begonia from Central Florida Ferns, and the Chestnut Cycad (scale free replacement for sago palms), Caranday Palm, and Giant Apostles Iris from Ray Green.
Of course, horticulturists, our famous plant specialists are available, along with growers, to answer plant care and gardening queries. Plan to meet Tom MacCubbin on Sunday between 1 – 4 PM.

The City of Apopka is proud to be celebrating its 20th year as a Tree City USA. Mark D. Miller CPRP & CA, City of Apopka will be present to give away 2,000 tree seedlings and will have about 200 3-gallon trees for sale.
Children will enjoy the free activities provided by The Home Depot along with clowns, face painting, and henna tattoos, sand sculpture, and more. School Art will also be on display. Apopka Citizen's Police Academy Alumni will be available to fingerprint children.
Guided Foliage Nursury Bus Tours will visit Agri-Starts, a biological technology nursery, and reveal how Apopka earned its “Indoor Foliage Capital of the World” title. Tours are Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 2:00 p.m. This is a must for the avid gardener. Tickets are $3 each and will be available at the information booth. Live continuous entertainment by soloists, choruses, dancers, the FMUC Choir, Magician Joe Caccioppo, and more. DJ’s Unlimited-Ralos Flores will be back by popular demand. The performers are from local schools and dance studios. After his performance at the Gazebo, Joe Caccioppo will walk around the park and entertain children and adults as a street performer would. Five year old Autum Rae will be performing songs from her first single.
Concession stands manned by Apopka-area civic groups of both local and ethnic variety. There is even breakfast, from 7 to 10 am for you early birds, provided by SERTOMA. Back again this year, the Rotary Club will be serving Fried Green Tomatoes!
Free, free, free! flu shots, H1N1 vaccinations, and blood pressures tests, from 9 am to 1 pm Saturday and Sunday, provided by the doctors at Park Avenue Medical, Rahn Shaw, MD; Roberto Perez, MD; and Kelly O'Sullivan-Stobbe, PA-C.
Follow signs on US 441 to Park Avenue, then proceed one-quarter mile north and turn right. Parking is available. FESTIVAL GOERS ARE REMINDED TO LEAVE THEIR PETS AT HOME. Sabbath Grace Fellowship will provide golf cart transportation to and from Edward's Field and the Festival. There will also be four comfort stations and an ATM.
